ABOUT KELLEN
Kellen Meyer is a Contemporary Artist focused on Large Scale Fiber Art Installations, Sculptures, and Collaborations with Galleries and Boutique Hotels.
Kellen’s Art is Rooted in Nature and influenced by the colors, shapes and textures in the wild outdoors. This influence weaves a common thread throughout her work. She entwines a variety of natural, biodegradable fibers to create hand-woven works of fine art that integrate knitting, crochet, and various weaving techniques. She also utilizes other natural materials including wool, fabric, cotton, wood, paper, willow, reed, and plant dyes. Kellen explores the natural world and nurtures story within each piece. Each piece created is a unique, one-of-a-kind work of Art.
Kellen Meyer is based in Southern California.
Kellen creates in her studio overlooking a bird sanctuary. She walks daily on the beach collecting colors, stories, and images. Kellen loves fairytales, afternoon light, Magic in the everyday and warm sourdough bread. She believes in the power of Love and Lattes.
Artist Statement
Through the weaving of natural materials, I explore the realms of Art and creativity. Many pieces are worked from sketch to final piece. Others are an intuitive process, cultivated with inspiring music or a deep feeling that must be followed. Often the dance with the idea and materials leads me in different directions than I had originally planned. That’s often the best part of the creative process.
Heavily influenced by how the afternoon light hits the water. Or a shadow passes along a wall. Sand under my feet. My dogs frolicking at the beach. Birds singing. Breeze wafting. Or the absolute quiet underwater. The ever watchful, contemplative artists process reminds me, yet again, that we are all connected with one another. No color, shape, language or distance can truly separate our human experience.
I encourage Art to be Inclusive and Magical and full of Hope. For we are all Entwined through Art and the beauty of the Natural World.
